Electronic version of JYIO Contents
For readers
To facilitate ease of access to the Journal of the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology (JYIO), the Editorial Board has decided to release an electronic verstion of JYIO. The Japan Science and Technology Agency hosts a website, J-STAGE, for publication of electronic journals at URL: http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp. There, users can find various papers provided by J-STAGE on the browser, and editors can publish PDF files of new papers using the tools provided. The electronic version of JYIO will be published on J-STAGE, and will occur two years after the issue of the printed journal version. Subscribers to JYIO will continue to receive the latest printed issue as usual. The earliest electronic version (vol. 37, no. 1) is scheduled for September 2007. We also plan to later provide PDF files of the previous volumes in sequence.

[Announcement] Assignment of Copyright
Supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology will make available on the internet electronic versions and PDF files of volumes 1-36 of the Journal of the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology (JYIO). The current version of 'Instructions for Authors' stipulates that copyright of papers published in JYIO be assigned to the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology.
In volumes 1-30 of JYIO and in the preceding publications Miscellaneous Reports of the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology and Miscellaneous Reports of the Yamashina's Institute for Ornithology and Zoology, the assignment of copyright was not clearly stated. Fundamentally, copyright of each publication in volumes 1- 30 should be transfered from each author to the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology, or each author should consent to our providing an internet electronic version.
However, logistic and communication difficulties pose a challenge to our completely achieving these goals. Therefore, given that the copyright of these publications was already assigned to the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology, we will provide electronic versions of those papers published during the period that the assignment of copyright was not stated. Even in cases when the copyright is assigned to the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology, the author(s) will not be prevented from using their papers as usual.
Author(s) having published a paper in the above-listed sequence of JYIO and who are unable to accept this policy, or individuals having inherited or otherwise aquired copyright to such publications and who have similar reservations, should contact us at the address below by March 2008. Given the difficulties inherent in all authors being made aware of this Announcement, any author who is unable to accept this policy and who was unable to access this Announcement in a timely manner should contact us without delay, even if after the expiration of the March 2008 deadline.
